Honest roundup

The best workout tracker apps in 2026.

Full disclosure: we make FYL. We use these apps, we compete with them, and we'd rather you pick the right one than pick us for the wrong reasons. Every app below is genuinely good — the question is which one fits how you train.

Best all-round social tracker

Hevy

Free (4 routines) · Pro $2.99/mo · $23.99/yr · $74.99 lifetime

The category's biggest name, and it earns it: polished logging on iOS, Android, web and both watch platforms, a huge social community, and since 2026 AI programming (Hevy Trainer, HevyGPT) on Pro. If you want the safe, do-everything choice, this is it.

  • Pick it for: cross-platform coverage, the social feed, AI programming.
  • Skip it if: you want leagues-style competition or the cheapest Pro — see our FYL vs Hevy breakdown.
Best minimalist solo logger

Strong

Free (3 routines, unlimited history) · Pro $4.99/mo · $29.99/yr

A decade old and deliberately simple: open, log, close. No feed, no gamification, and unlimited workout history on the free tier — rare generosity. The 3-routine free cap is the main squeeze toward Pro.

  • Pick it for: distraction-free logging, free unlimited history, iOS + Android.
  • Skip it if: social accountability keeps you consistent — see FYL vs Strong.
Best free tier for strength training

StrengthLog

Free (most features) · Premium subscription for programs & advanced stats

Made by strength nerds in Sweden, and it shows: the free tier covers unlimited logging, programs, and even 1RM and warm-up calculators. Premium mostly adds coached programs and deeper analytics. The trade-off is a plainer interface and a smaller community.

  • Pick it for: the most generous strength-focused free tier, powerlifting leanings.
  • Skip it if: you want a social layer or a slicker modern UI.
Best free routine flexibility

Lyfta

Free (unlimited routines) · Premium ≈ $50/yr

A fast-growing tracker with a beautiful 1,400+ exercise library, muscle-activation visuals, and — unusually — unlimited routines on the free tier. Premium adds advanced analytics and expert programs.

  • Pick it for: unlimited free routines, exercise visuals, iOS + Android.
  • Skip it if: you want competition features or a web dashboard for desktop logging.
Best for competitive motivation · cheapest Pro

FYL — that's us

Free (4 routines, 60-day history) · Pro $1.99/mo · $19.99/yr · $69.99 lifetime

FYL's bet is that training sticks when it's a game you can lose: private leagues ranked on weekly consistency, XP and levels, streaks, and a feed of people who lift. Underneath sits full-strength tracking — live logging, PRs, estimated 1RM, volume — plus a complete read-write web dashboard. Honest caveats: we're young, the community is small, and Android is still on the way.

  • Pick it for: leagues & XP motivation, the lowest Pro price, web logging.
  • Skip it if: you need Android today or a large established community.

How to actually choose

Ignore feature checklists and ask one question: what makes you show up in week six? If it's seeing friends' workouts, Hevy. If it's silence and a clean log, Strong. If it's strength numbers going up on a budget of $0, StrengthLog. If it's flexible free routines and pretty visuals, Lyfta. If it's a leaderboard you refuse to fall down, FYL. Every app here logs sets competently — the motivation model is the real product.

Methodology

Prices and free-tier limits were checked in July 2026 from each app's public pricing and store pages. We didn't rank by feature count, and we put our own app last on the page on purpose. Something outdated or unfair? Email support@forgeyourlift.com and we'll correct it.
